3 Amazing Autumn Drink Recipes

0-1

Autumn has arrived in its usual splendor of crimson and gold foliage, clouding the skies with curtains of rain and a chill perceptible enough to make us break out our sweaters and scarves. Cafes are filled with the scent of pumpkin spice lattes and social media newsfeeds are clogged with memes of pumpkins and people at peace with each other.

However, besides the world-renowned pumpkin spice latte, there are a great variety of drinks that are savory in or out of season. You don’t need to be a barista to make these beverages!

1) Classic Hot Apple Cider
A mug of steaming apple cider is a nice way to warm up cold hands. There are a wide range of recipes online ranging from basic to complex, but this recipe doesn’t take much time at all; it can be quickly prepared and made using a coffee pot.

The ingredients for this include:
¼ cup packed brown sugar
½ teaspoon whole allspice
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
¼ teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 large orange, quartered with peel
2 quarts of apple cider

Simply take a coffee filter, place it in the coffee basket, and pour brown sugar, allspice, orange wedges, cloves, the cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and salt into it. Then take the two quarts of apple cider and pour it into the coffee pot (in lieu of where water would typically go) and then brew away!

2) Excellent Eggnog
It’s a very seasonal drink that’s generally offered in stores for only two or three months out of the entire year. Why settle for eggnog deprivation when you can make this goodness all year long? The most difficult part of this recipe is waiting for it to refrigerate overnight!

The ingredients for this include:
4 cups milk
5 whole cloves
2 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
12 egg yolks
1 ½ cups sugar
4 cups light cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

First, pour the milk, cloves, cinnamon, and ½ vanilla extract into a saucepan and cook it on the lowest stove setting for five minutes; bring it to a slow boil. In a large mixing bowl, whisk sugar and egg yolks together until it’s fluffy and then whisk it slowly into the saucepan, into the milk mixture. Cook this over medium heat and stir frequently for three minutes or until the consistency is thick. Strain to remove any possible clots and let cool for an hour. Finally, stir in nutmeg, cream, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and refrigerate overnight before indulging.

3) Smashing Pumpkin Smoothie

Have you ever wanted to throw the innards of a pumpkin into a blender and drink it as a smoothie? The recipe for a pumpkin smoothie is not complicated, but preparation time takes at least 24 hours. However, it’s definitely well worth the wait.

The ingredients for this include:
16 ounces or 1 can of pumpkin puree
2 cups of milk (almond milk can serve as a substitute)
½ of pure vanilla extract
¼ cup of brown sugar

Place the pumpkin puree into a sealable freezer bag for 24 hours, heat up the frozen puree in the microwave on high until it softens, then pour the milk and remaining ingredients into the blender and blend it until the consistency is to your satisfaction. Of course, whipped cream and a sprinkling of ground cinnamon could be added for a delicious topping.

Overall, any of these drinks would be more than tasty enough to serve for Thanksgiving (or just because you can!)
