Beacons Shine Through the Season

The NCU Men’s Soccer team had a roller coaster ride of a season with an ending record of 4-12-2. The team was also the first to ever win back-to-back games in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, and for the first time in four years the team won three conference games. Three members of this team received conference awards: junior Angel Sandoval (second team all league), sophomore Sergio Maldonado (honorable mention), and junior Ian Hawksford (honorable mention). The future for this Men’s Soccer team is bright.

For three of these players it was just the beginning of collegiate sports as Zeph Hollins, TJ Burton, and Kyle McMurrich kicked off their collegiate careers. While it is just the beginning for these players it is the end for the five seniors on the team including Max Torres, Josh Bramlett, Ryan Herriage, Chase Pearson, and Vladyslav Boloban. In a previous interview after a very frustrating season ending game against Oregon Tech, the head coach of five years, Brett Bentley, says this about his seniors, “These seniors did an amazing job over the course of their careers and they are leaving us in a better place than when they arrived. Their shoes will be difficult to fill.”

Although it may have been a tough year, this team has the strength and endurance to persevere and move on to the next year. Losing only five players by the next season, these beacon warriors will be ready to fight another fight.
